Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has awarded Huawei Technologies a contract to supply next-generation metro wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks to help support the growth in services such as IPTV and mobile broadband in Saudi Arabia. The contract includes the first use in the Middle East of Photonic Integrated Device (PID) technology, which saves on both space and power usage of WDM network operations.
