MTN to plough SZL33m into network expansion

MTN Swaziland has announced that it intends to invest around SZL33 million (USD3.88 million) in the expansion of its 2G and 3G networks during the second half of this year. CEO Ambrose Dlamini has indicated that SZL22 million will go towards the rollout of 2G infrastructure, whilst the remaining SZL11 million will be spent on extending coverage of the cellco’s 3G network, which launched in October 2011. Confirming the company’s deployment statistics, Dlamini said that MTN currently has 231 2G base transceiver stations (BTS) in operation, with a further 29 set to go live this year
