Portugal’s Zon Multimedia wants to expand its overseas pay-TV operations into new markets, with an entry in Venezuela potentially high on the list to add to its ‘Zap’ branded operations in Angola and Mozambique, reports Portuguese website CMJournal. Although officials from Zon did not confirm its intention to launch pay-TV in Venezuela, a spokesperson commented that the triple-play operator ‘continues to study many markets and many options.’ A potential launch in Venezuela could follow the same pattern as in African countries, the report claims – that is, with the launch of satellite-based TV services initially. However, the acquisition of existing Venezuelan operators could also form part of Zon’s future ambitions.
